Stop-Loss Orders!

This is a hot topic that just got hotter! A purpose of stop loss orders is to include money management in your trade. That is cut your losses while maximizing your profits. Now, here is where I will get slammed. While in equity trading, stop loss orders may be justified but in Forex it is unnecessary if you use proper money management. I mean proper Money Management where you set your lot size and margin level so that in the event of adverse market reaction, you can ride it out, and if need to, open additional trades to catch more positive pips. Also your Money Management strategy should be progressive, that is as the equity increases the lot size increases.

Forex is a volatile and liquid market, that with proper money management, stop losses are unnecessary and can be avoided. This takes time and practice and may not be suitable for all traders. Trade with caution not emotions!!!

MT4 Liquidity Provider Bridge

Who invented it first?

Boston Technologies makes the claim they invented this first (see http://bostontechnologies.com/mt4-liquidity-bridge.html). They made have applied a name to a technology developed in 2008 for the now infamous Forex Raptor and succeedingly, Forex General.

What is it?

A MT4 Liquidity Provider Bridge is an extension developed for MT4 to send account and market information to a third party liquidity provider other than the current provider for which MT4 is targeted. This extension usually consists of an EA file (ex4) and a DLL. The EA provides the direct interfacing with MT4 while the DLL provides the communication logic between the EA and the liquidity provider,

Why is it important?

Allows MT4 to be extended and not restricted to just a single liquidity provider/broker/FDM. MT4 is an excellent platform for trading but is restricted to a single provider when using EA’s and other algorithmic trading. We have developed the Ultimate MT4 Client which includes connectivity to multiple FDM’s as well as a large collection of EA’s, Indicator’s and Scripts. Additionally, we include a documents directory in the MT4 installation path.

While Boston Technologies may charge a fee for their MT4 Liquidity Bridge, Forex General is FREE!

Updates to Forex General

There have been issues with the last build of Forex General producing GAC Assembly errors. This is due, in part that up to Forex General 10, was build using the Visual Studio Express edition (the free version of Visual Studio). The express edition has many limitations but require extra care when developing package solutions. Since that time, a license has been purchased for the full full version of Visual Studio 2010 Professional, and a rebuild is in progress and released soon. The rebuild will have all the functionality that the previous version has plus upcoming previews and some useful addition like, 1) Forex Strategy Builder, 2) Cassini ASP.Net Server, 3) additional RSS feed, and much more. This version will be tag as Forex General 11.

1. The implementation of FXTrafiker which reads the Forex Strategy Builder native files and send trade executions to your broker without any conversion.

2. A private build of Forex Strategy Builder embedded within the Forex General ITE

3. An embedded version of the Cassini ASP Web Browser for Web Services support to extend Forex General

4. Implementation of the Carry Trade Calculator

5. A better Metatrader/Forex Tester 2 bridge with Forex General. (Some Antivirus programs report the DLL’s as virus because they are using shared memory data segments)

Difference between STP & ECN?

The lines between the ECN (Electronic Communication Network) and STP have become pretty blurred. Also STP (Straight Through Processing) has been misinterrepted as an ECN. To understand the difference, you need to understand DD (Dealing Desk).. The DD is when you trade with/against the FDM (Forex Dealing Manager), whether there is a live person or not. Many FDM’s DD are automated and no need for a physical, live person. The ECN passes your trade to their Market Maker’s (typically the banking network) where you are exposed to the market and not just to the FDM. For example, the FDM would send the trade to the Banks via the EBS (VCapFX) network? STP is when the FDM does not modify the trade before it is sent to the market, where in the DD, the FDM must modify the trade to make money. A good test and rule to determine if your FDM is an ECN, is that ECN dealing charge a commission because the FDM cannot modify the trade spreads to make money and thus must charge a commission. If not, they would not be in business! Additionally, the wholesale network is not free and the FDM needs to cover their expenses. If an FDM promotes that they are an ECN and does not charge a commission, then question their motives. Many FDM’s have several different account types: the non-ECN without a commission or the ECN with a commission. Which type of FDM to use is the trader’s preference. If you have a successful, automatica trading algorithm that is working fine on your current broker, then there is no need to change them. Again a matter of preference?
